Subaru Canada – Updated EV Safety Equipment Requirements

Subaru Canada has discontinued the Subaru HEV Safety Kit and revised its safety equipment requirements for certified facilities. Shops that previously purchased the kit may continue to use components such as the electrical isolation mat, safety cones, and barricade tape as part of the updated requirements below.

Subaru Canada recommends Wurth Canada as their preferred supplier, however shops may source safety equipment from their vendor of choice, as long as all items comply with applicable local and federal safety regulations.

Required EV Safety Equipment:

  • Class 0 insulated lineman gloves (non-expired), available in appropriate sizes for all employees
Note: Gloves must be retested every six months
  • Leather over-gloves to protect Class 0 gloves, sized appropriately
  • Electrical isolation mat
  • EV warning stickers and signage
  • Safety hats or cones
  • Barricade tape or temporary fencing
  • Class C fire-rated dry chemical fire extinguisher (ABC or BC)
  • CSA-approved safety glasses
  • Insulated hand tools rated for 1000V AC (e.g., sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers)
  • Arc flash protective face shield
  • Arc flash protective coveralls
